A friend of mine purchased a brand new TV from Currys...A Phillips.
She found she could not tune in her dvd recorder to record...it would not recognize the product and would not set up.
She left it and then went back to it and then left it after changing scarts, changing cable around but finally called Phillips after a few weeks and had a legnthy chat with them who confirmed it was faulty and to contact the store as she was insured by the extended warranty..THE SET IS ONLY 6 WEEKS old but OUT OF CURRYS EXCHANGE WITHIN 21 DAYS POLICY
Currys came out the discovered it was the "Source Panel" that was not working and they would order the part and return.
The called a few days later and made the appointment to retuen but they showed up with an empty box and very apologetic, stated that "PHILLIPS"
would not send them the part, they had to collect the faulty one and send it back to PHILLIPS, then they would send a new one back to Currys and then Currys would return to fit the part but it would take 3 weeks for this to happen.!!! The TV cannot work with out the source panel so she will be without a TV!!!
She then talked to Currys re a refund in the way of vouchers so she can choose another TV...BUT Currys cannot issue VOUCHERS until the repair issues goes over 21 days from first reporting the fault. Apparently their policy says "if we cannot repair product within 21 days they will offer vouchers so a replacement can be purchased". Now this is not rocket science, nor does anyone need a degree in maths to recognize that this is almost to the days and if PHILLIPS take 3 weeks (this is also 21 days correct???) that she will be entitled to her vouchers ion and around the 3rd of April.especially if Phillips have already told them the part will take 3 weeks WHY cant she have her vouchers now??? YES.???? NO! Currys said , even after speaking to their head office, said she has to WAIT the 21 days AND have no TV AND (not yo mention she had paid a deposit when she first purchased this TV and has been paying monthly for the rest!)
So lets go through this: The fault was reported on the 10th March but Currys did not come until the 13th which starts as day 1. They are coming to pick up the TV on Monday March 26 so she will have to wait until The 3rd of April to be able to get her vouchers.! Phillips will take their 3 weeks but by then she will have her vouchers!
This may further interest you. When she spoke to Currys Head Office, she asked them if they knew Phillips had this poilicy as described she said they did know but they were at liberty to make this public knowledge!!! SHAME SHAME!!!
